What is a Home Visit?
A home visit is a chance for us to meet you and your family in your own space. It helps us understand your daily routines, your child’s needs, and any support that may help your family.
We know home visits can make some parents feel anxious, and that’s completely normal. Our aim is to be open, respectful, and clear about what we’re doing and why.
We’ll start by having a conversation about how things are going. We want to hear what’s going well, any challenges you’re facing, and what support you feel would make a difference. This is a two‑way conversation, and you can ask questions at any time.
During the visit, we may ask to look around your home with you. This can include:
- Taking a general look at the rooms and sleeping arrangements
- Checking cupboards or food storage, to understand daily routines
- Seeing where children play, sleep, and spend time
We may spend a few minutes speaking to your child alone. This gives them a safe space to share their own thoughts and feelings. Every child deserves their voice to be heard, and we want to make sure they feel safe and supported too.
We may ask about the people around you who can help — family, friends, neighbours, or anyone you trust. Understanding your support network helps us plan the best way to support your family.
We know this might feel uncomfortable, but we explain everything as we go. Home visits help us understand the situation properly so we can identify the right support. It is not about judging your home — it’s about making sure your child is safe and well.
